The Silvatech Universal Set Controller was developed for carriages with a set shaft to enable a sawyer to produce more accurately sized lumber faster, and with less effort than was previously possible. It controls the existing set drive whether an electric, hydraulic or air motor to make accurate sets and to enable the sawyer to saw down to an accurately sized cant or dogboard without calculating starting position or jogging. It includes two axis position memory for sawing around grade logs or storing frequently used sequences of pieces.

SILVATECH HYDRAULIC LINEAR POSITIONER SET CONTROLLER

The Silvatech Hydraulic Linear Positioner Set Controller was developed for carriages with a linear positioner cylinder on each knee. It can be purchased with a new linear carriage from most manufacturers or Silvatech can retro-fit most existing carriages with the cylinders and hydraulics. It includes the features of the Universal Set Controller plus much higher knee speed, even higher accuracy, and easier, faster and more precise tapering.

SILVATECH ELECTRIC LINEAR POSITIONER SET CONTROLLER

The Silvatech Electric Linear Positioner Set Controller utilizes an electric servo motor on each knee. Like the hydraulic version, it can be purchased with a new carriage or the motors can be retro-fitted.

SILVATECH SCANNER SYSTEM

The Silvatech Scanning System is available as an option to either the hydraulic or electric Linear Positioner Set Controller. The unmatched versatility of the system covers a wide range of assistance, from basic help in opening faces to determining the complete sawing pattern for a log. This versatility allows the sawyer do exactly what he wants to get the most profit from each log he saws as quickly as possible.

SILVATECH EDGER OPTIMIZER

The Silvatech Edger Optimizer is more compact, simpler, and less expensive than other edger optimizers. It includes the edger infeed and can be retrofitted to existing edgers or be included in a new edger installation. The system can be configured to receive boards from one or both sides. It accommodates two or three saw edgers as well as combination edger / gangs. Silvatech’s optimization software for hardwood is superior at maximizing dollar recovery while producing attractive lumber.

The Silvatech Edger Optimizer can be installed in mills where the distance from a rollcase to the side of the edger is less than six feet. Current installations include mills sawing over 60M’ / shift. The Silvatech optimizer includes a lengthwise double width sharp top chain with overhead press rolls to feed boards into the edger. This provides positive control and accurate edging even with older edgers.

Optimization is value driven with provision for the operator to enter a grade or have the system utilize a grade designated as the default (no grade entry needed). The system automatically calculates the most valuable solutions for the default and other grades and selects the highest valued solution. Special software provides for the inclusion of wane approaching the maximum for a given grade only on those boards where a significant gain in surface measure is attained by doing so. Boards which can be cleaned up without sacrificing surface measure are automatically edged with less wane.

The system provides a preview to the operator of the optimizer’s solution displayed on the board by lasers before the board is moved onto the feed system. The operator can use a joystick to quickly override the solution to accommodate defect positions.

The dimension data and solutions for all boards are saved so that management can review solutions and whether they were overridden. This also provides for checking what the results would have been with revised wane rules or values.

SILVATECH TALLY SYSTEM / TRIMMER CONTROL / SORTER CONTROL

The Silvatech Tally System measures each piece of lumber for length, width and thickness, displays the dimensions, including surface measure, to the operator, accepts operator inputs for grade or grade and color and keeps a tally of all lumber processed. The system can control a marking device to put sort codes or grade marks on the boards for manual sorting on a green chain or, if the system includes the Sorter Control option, it also controls a sorter to drop the boards into the proper bins. It informs the operator and yardman when the pack target amount for a sort is reached and prints one or more tags with all pertinent information for the pack.
